Environment

Uniogen supports the Sustainable Development Goals.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PHILOSOPHY

We are committed to reducing the consumption of natural resources, minimizing waste and emissions, and optimizing production and procurement for cost-effective environmental management. Uniogen employees are encouraged to reduce the consumption of materials and resources such as water, electricity, paper, plastic, packaging, and chemical substances. Deliberate littering and other forms of pollution of nature and the environment contradict environmental legislation. We ensure that waste on Uniogen’s premises is reused, efficiently sorted, and recycled, enhancing material reuse and waste energy recovery. We handle substances hazardous to humans and the environment with special care, and the resulting waste is permanently disposed of under our instructions.

We are committed to the UN Global Compact initiative and the Finland Chamber of Commerce’s Climate Program 2024. We also take part in Rinki Oy’s packaging recycling and take care of its obligations regarding the producer’s responsibility for its product packaging.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND RESOURCE EFFICIENCY

We regularly evaluate suppliers of key raw materials and key components, as well as key service providers, either with so-called desktop supplier assessments or by visiting the supplier’s premises. In doing so, we strive for controlled cooperation with suppliers and guarantee high-quality operations. End-users of Uniogen’s products are the life sciences industry, including the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries, research institutes, hospitals, and other healthcare units.

Environmental issues:

  • Minimizing transportation emissions due to mainly domestic manufacturers and many European suppliers
  • Producer responsibility for packaging material

Our activities and outputs:

  • The implemented circular economy – repairing and refurbishing instruments to extend their life cycles
  • Product development in packaging, reduction of packaging material
  • Appropriate hazardous waste management
  • Increasing the share of recycled waste

Uniogen products and services are designed to decrease emissions gradually. We aim to use renewable energy sources and reduce waste.

Uniogen device products have a long life cycle, and devices are serviced and repaired for reuse. We pay attention to the recycling and disposal of packaging and products and provide instructions on these issues.

AIMING FOR CARBON NEUTRALITY

Because of climate change, companies will need to be flexible in the future and prepared for the various risks and opportunities it poses. We study and create guidelines for the recycling and final disposal of the various components of our products. We minimize waste generated from the raw materials utilized in our product manufacturing, enhancing the efficiency of their usage. In the long term, we want to be among the Finnish SMEs that are carbon neutral and contribute to implementing the 2030 Agenda in Finland, Europe, and the world. We will reduce our emissions and strive for carbon neutrality in our operations. Under the Paris Agreement, we aim to contribute to limiting the global average temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Uniogen supports actions that mitigate climate change and enable adaptation to it.

Commuting

Uniogen collected data from the commutes of one operational site’s employees in 2022. The survey examined which vehicles they used and how often they traveled to the workplace during the year. The survey results showed that up to 25% of all employees traveled to the workplace by walking or cycling daily, meaning their commute was utterly emission-free. In 2023, the employee cycle benefit was extended to all our employees.
