Kids took over our office for one day – this is what happened
It’s not that we were out of fresh ideas, but we wanted to invite our employees’ children to the office so that they could see what their parents are up to during workdays. In other words, we participated in the national Children’s Day at Work on 18 November, and it turned out to be a blast.
The idea of the concept is that all children have the right to express their opinions and to be heard. This is important for a company that wants to be family friendly. Most children are curious to see what different jobs actually look like and what sort of tasks adults carry out in their everyday work. And let’s be honest – you can’t blame children (or adults for that matter) for not knowing exactly what for example designing rapid PCR-tests looks like.
Our day together with the clever kids was a joy. They got to see the manufacturing room and study our GenomEra® instruments up close (we got their seal of approval, by the way). The future biochemists got to do some lab work, too. They were as excited as we are once we get our workflow just right. They made cool bugs as office decoration as well. But perhaps the best bit of the day was to hang out with the moms and dads in a special place they had never seen before (the Uniogen HQ that is).
Thanks to the children we now have many brilliant development ideas to make our workplace even better. We really look forward to next year’s visit!
